Sandhills is a small, peaceful community. Although it has excellent road connections, it is on the edge of the city and the countryside, including Shotover Country Park, is a few minutes away. About a mile away across the fields is the historic village of Forest Hill where John Milton was married, and also close by is the house in Risinghurst where C.S.Lewis lived.

Sandhills is just off the Oxford-London road opposite the Park-and-Ride car park at Thornhill and near the Oxford ring-road. It is close to the John Radcliffe and other hospitals. It has excellent public transport, with buses into the city approximately every ten minutes during the day and every half-hour in the evenings. Stops for Oxford Brookes University buses, coaches to London and coaches to Heathrow and Gatwick are all close by. The nearest shops are approximately half a mile away. In Headington, about a mile away, are banks, supermarkets, etc.
