Auditions for Maple Giant Theatre's autumn production of David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize winning play 'Proof' will be taking place on Satuday 12th July 2008 at 12.00pm.

The auditions will be located in the upstairs room at Copa, 9-13 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2AU.

PROOF:

On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions, the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire, and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind.

Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father's madness, or genius, will she inherit?


The parts that are available and we will be casting for are:

Robert: The sixty two year old father of two, Robert is the darker side to this exquisite play. The deterioration of his mental health mixed with his unflappable ambition to sustain his incredible level of intelligence, with a flash of genius, Proof sees this intense figure slowly begin to unravel.

Hal: A twenty five year old academic protégé who has devoted his life to his love of learning. A quiet and reserved character at the beginning, he soon becomes caught up in the mix of passion and frustration that is made clear during this psychological snapshot of mathematical genius.

Claire: Competent and frustratingly efficient business women and twenty nine year old sister of Catherine, Claire presents a metropolitan counterpoint to Catherine’s intellectual bohemia. She descends on the play with good intention however the past difficulty of her relationships and ‘no shit’ attitude to life soon lead her into the confusion and frustration that embodies Auburn’s masterpiece.


Performances will be at the OFS Studio Theatre, Oxford, at 7.30pm (plus a Saturday matinee) between Tuesday 21st and Saturday 25th October 2008; rehearsals will begin mid/end-August 2008.
