Senior Web Developer Supporting Malaria Research

The Centre for Genomics and Global Health (CGGH) has immediate need for Senior Web Database Developer to have a formative role in the developing and enhancing the secure web applications to support the Centre's portfolio of research projects, in the UK and abroad. The post holder will report to the CGGH director, Professor Dominic Kwiatkowski.
The postholder will lead software development projects within the informatics section that supports the CGGH global research partnership of clinicians, epidemiologists, immunologists, geneticists and statisticians. He or she will be expected to set the overall software design principals, provide a considerable level of technical expertise to the project, and will be responsible for selecting solutions and driving them through to practical realisation.
You will have a PhD in a relevant subject area or a strong track record of programming in a scientific environment. You will have project management experience for the planning, development, roll-out, and support of software systems and the ability to communicate with an extended team of stakeholders on a given projects progress. You will have proven expertise in web application programming techniques and be comfortable programming in several languages including Perl and Java. You will be proficient in object-oriented programming techniques and have produced software that integrates data from heterogeneous database management storage systems. You will be familiar with modern software design documentation techniques, such as UML diagramming, and have experience of working in teams with agile methodologies.
